Rheinau is located in Zurich’s wine country, around five kilometers below the Rheinfall, between Schaffhausen and Winterthur. The village is shaped by the Rhine, sitting within a double loop of the river.
The beautiful surrounding area made for hiking and cycling, the unique river landscape, and the historic sites make Rheinau a popular destination for visitors.
In the upper part of the town ruins of a Celtic wall, remains of the ancient city wall, the Bergkirche (mountain church) as well as the historic Gesellschafthaus zur Stube wait to be explored. In the lower part of the town the late-Gothic noble houses and the Salmenquartier with its old covered wooden bridge connecting Rheinau with Jestetten (Germany) are worth a visit.
