The impressive baroque monastery church is located in the immediate vicinity of the Musikinsel and can be visited. The Musikinsel’s next door neighbour is the “Haus der Stille” (The house of silence), a convent run by the sisters of the "Spirituelle Weggemeinschaft”(a spiritual community), which is equally open to laypeople seeking meditation and spiritual support.

On the mainland, there is a farm estate that used to be part of the monastery and, subsequently, of the hospital. Today, the estate is run by the foundation "Stiftung Fintan" and various biodynamically orientated businesses are part of this foundation. In addition, they offer job opportunities for people with disabilities. One of their main focuses is cultivation and selling of organic seeds through Sativa Rheinau AG.

In 1862, the Rheinau monastery wine cellars were converted into a state winery,“Zürcher Staatskellerei”, when Gottfried Keller, at the time the canton’s official secretary, initiated the change. In 1997 the winery was turned into a subsidiary of the Mövenpick AG and is still one of the largest wine producers in German-speaking Switzerland.

Rheinau is part of the canton of Zurich and still home of a part of the psychatric university clinic.
